12.29.17

Today I poured myself over the brilliant words of a few authors. First, I forced down a dry chapter of a Tale of Two Cities, and then eagerly opened John Green’s newest novel, Turtles All The Way Down. I often find myself making creative decisions and formulating new project ideas when lost in a good book. So, thanks to fictional character Davis Pickett and his creator John Green, I’m sitting here writing my words down to later publish for anyone, and no one, to see.

Headspace is something I often need more of. As an introvert, alone time in my own head and own space is critical to mull over events of the day. In the bustle of the Christmas holiday I’ve found very few moments of headspace and quite frankly it’s frustrating and isolating to be in a room with so many people you love and just want to get away. Because of this, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the way my habits towards my creative endeavors need to change in favor of spending time every single day doing what I love. I draw, I take photos, I write occasionally, but those three are never found together in the same notebook, or are they hardly ever put out there for public scrutiny. So, in the year two thousand and eighteen, I’m going to make sure I post once a day, no exceptions. Whether its a photo I took ages ago, a doodle I did in the margins of my class notes, some writing I managed to do, or a quote I stumbled upon, I want to post once a day. I’m not going to lie, this is going to be difficult to keep up, and since this won’t be readily shared with anyone I know, It’ll be a good exercise of self responsibility. If I can remember to brush my own teeth once a day, I can definitely remember to log into WordPress.

Until tomorrow,
Ani

  1. How is Turtles all the Way Down? I was huge John Greene fan in high school (I even have a signed TFIOS fan art poster!) But now that I’m 20 I just didn’t feel myself excited about this release. Is it any good?

    1. Turtles is an *amazing* read. I was also apprehensive, I’m 19 and thought I had outgrown young adult fiction (but if i’m being honest with myself I never will). John Green is amazing at what he does, and personally I think Turtles was more personal and mature in comparison to TFIOS. It’s really a very good book, I’d encourage anyone to read it!
